Houghton Horns mouthpieces possess a special external profile and a uniquely-balanced rim, cup, bore, backbore, and shank. The entire line was designed by Mark Houghton and Derek Wright and manufactured by Dave Houser. All Houghton mouthpiece cups (underparts) are made of either raw brass or surgical-grade stainless steel. They are available in four distinct models and a variety of configurations when paired with various rim diameters, contours and coatings. Ultimately, the emphasis was on balance, focusing on the versatility and functionality that most modern players require. Between the four models any horn player, high or low, orchestral or commercial, solo or section, should be capable of finding a mouthpiece that provides a sense of comfort and identity.

Description

The Houghton H1 is a bowl shaped, high volume, 2-piece cup derived from the Houser San Francisco model. It has a #14 bore, +1mm external taper, and a #2 backbore. The H1 cup is offered in both American (Standard) and European shank tapers and our standard Giardinelli threading.

The Houghton H2 is a bowl shaped, standard volume, 2-piece cup derived from the Houser San Francisco model. It has a #14 bore, +1mm external taper, and a #3 backbore. The H2 cup is offered in both American (Standard) and European shank tapers and our standard Giardinelli threading.

The Houghton H3 is a deep, funnel/bowl shaped combination 2-piece cup that is derived from an original 1960‘s era “block-letter” Farkas model. It has a #17 bore, Euro+2mm external taper, and a scanned Farkas backbore from an original cup. The H3 cup is offered in both American (Standard) and European shank tapers and our standard Giardinelli threading.

The Houghton H4 is a medium, funnel/bowl combination cup that is derived froma shallower version of the original 1960’s era “block-letter” Farkas mouthpiece. It has a #16 bore with a custom backbore. It is available in both American (Standard) and European shank tapers and our standard Giardinelli threading.
